1. The Quality of Your Diagnosis and Treatment Plan

Implant placement is surgery. Like any surgery, outcomes depend heavily on planning that happens before you sit in the chair.

Today's standard of care involves CBCT 3D cone-beam imaging — a scan that gives your dentist a three-dimensional map of your jaw: bone height, width, density, and the precise location of nerves and the sinus cavity. Without it, implant placement is guided by traditional 2D X-rays alone, which show vertical anatomy but miss important details about bone width and neighboring structures.

A well-planned implant is positioned at the ideal angle and depth for your specific anatomy, avoiding nerves, maximizing bone contact, and setting the crown up for a natural bite. Poorly planned placement can result in chronic discomfort, failed integration, or damage to surrounding structures.

Questions to ask any implant provider: Does your quote include CBCT imaging? Who reviews it — the treating dentist or a radiologist? Is a surgical guide used during placement?

A lower quote that skips bone evaluation, doesn't include follow-up visits, or doesn't address aftercare isn't just missing value — it may be setting you up for a costly failure down the road.
